Human rights under criticism: Professor, Dr. Jur. Mads Bryde Andersen in debate at Moalem Weitemeyer on 19 June

On 19 June 2026, we welcome Professor, Dr. Jur. Mads Bryde Andersen to Moalem Weitemeyer for a discussion based on his newly published book ’Misunderstood Human Rights: How Unreflective Views on Human Rights Have Harmed Democracy and the Rule of Law’ (in Danish: Misforståede menneskerettigheder: Hvordan ureflekterede syn på menneskerettighederne har skadet demokratiet og retsstaten)

  • 19 June 2026
  • 09:00-11:15
  • Moalem Weitemeyer, Amaliegade 3, 4th floor, 1256 Copenhagen
Please note that the event will be held in Danish.

Drawing on his book, Mads Bryde Andersen will present and discuss his criticism of modern human rights thinking and outline possible solutions to the challenges he believes it has created for democracy and the rule of law.

  • The development of the European Court of Human Rights since 1950 and the role of the Court and its interpretative practices
  • The relationship between human rights, democracy and national legislation
  • Possible legal and international law responses to these developments
Following the presentation, there will be an open discussion and Q&A session moderated by Chairman and Partner, attorney-at-law Dan Moalem.

Register and read more about the event here (in Danish).

We look forward to hosting what promises to be an important and thought-provoking debate.
