To support Denmark’s ambition of quadrupling the onshore wind and solar energy production by 2030, new legislation has been introduced permitting the use of direct lines - electricity connections that link renewable energy producers directly to major consumers such as e.g. data centres, EV charging stations, and district heating plants.

In this article, it is explained what direct lines are, the advantages they offer, and the regulatory conditions that must be met for them to be implemented successfully.
